Bisibelabath  is a rice dish which cooked with lentils and its famous of karnataka state..Also can call this as HOT LENTIL RICE means Rice cooked with vegetables and lentils in tamarind juice and ghee..
I like single bowl rice recipes to prepare for lunch..But I should think for my kids mostly..They eat only white along with rasam n curries.Whenever I feel to eat different version of rice,according to vegetables in the fridge prefers to cook any pulav or fried rice..Recently this BISIBELABATH also took place in the list and I like this very much..This recipe needs lots of ghee and before two times I cooked with right amount of ghee and it was simply delicious. but some times have to prefer less ghee for health and this is the result of mine after cooking with less ghee.. and I like both versions too..Even DH also liked this rice n never rejects..I know,this recipe is very familiar to you all.but try with less ghee like me and sure you will love it..Go On...

WHAT YOU NEED

Toor dal/kandi pappu-1cup
Raw rice- 2cups
Tamarind paste-4-5 tsps
fresh coconut powder-1cup
garam masala-1 tsp
cashews/kajus-1 cup
cilantro/kottimeera-few leaves

TO TEMPER

Ghee(I used) -3-5 tbsps(You can add 1/4cup)
mustard seeds-1 tsp
curry leaves-1 sprig
turmeric powder/pasupu-1 tsp
hing/inguva/asafoetida-1/4 tsp
chana dal/senaga pappu-1 tsp
minapappu/urad dal-1 tsp
fenugreek seeds/mentulu-1 tsp
red chilli-6


HOW TO MAKE

Wash twice dal n rice....In a pressure cooker add washed n drained toor dal,rice,tamarind,garam masala and as needed water.. Cook for 2-3 whistles or 10 mins in med flame.

Heat ghee in a pan and fry cashews,curry leaves n remove.. keep aside these ...

in the same pan add fenugreek seeds, broken red chilli,chana dal,urad dal,hing,turmeric powder and fry for 2 seconds...

Then add in coconut powder and fry for 2-3 mins in low flame...Let it cool for some time then grind into paste..

Mix this in pressure cooked rice along with salt....Cook this for 5 more mins or til forms into thick....

Finally add fried cashews,curry leaves n cilantro.....Serve hot with papad....


MAHAS NOTES

Replace toor dal with red toor dal..Here I used moong dal(pesara pappu)

You can cook this is normal utensil or in rice cooker.

Don`t skip cashews..Use always fresh ground coconut or powder.

You can vegetables like potato,onion,brinjal,peas and carrot..
