Easy Radish Sambar Without Coconut Milk | Mullangi Sambar | Quick and Easy South Indian Hot Lentil Sambar Recipes | How To Make Mooli Sambar

Like in india,we don`t have plenty of vegetables in foz..can count the veggies on fingers which available at my place..but,after deciding to use all veggies (which I don`t like even) started trying varieties these days..This radish sambar is one of the popular dish in south india, but most of the people avoids radish because of it`s odd smell.
Lucky to say,that I don`t have any health problems with vegetables except potato and brinjal.But,these days dared and started cooking those two also.That`s another matter..

Coming to this,along with all veggies I often buy radish which can store for long time in fridge.After making chutney last few days back, with remaining half size of radish piece tried this sambar..This Hot piping sambar tastes good with hot white rice and you don`t have the smelly problem too.If you cook dal and radish first,process of sambar is quite simple and can cook quickly too.Here Iam giving step wise pictures which can give a clarity to you all and can make it easily..Try next time and let us know.



Onion-1 small
toor dal/kandi pappu-1/2 cup (pressure cooked)
Mullangi/Radish (medium size)-1 (sliced and boiled)
Tomatoes-1 big
Salt-to taste
Cumin powder-1/2 tsp
Coconut milk-1/2 cup (optional)
red Chilli powder-to taste
Turmeric powder-12/ tsp
dry Red chilli-1 big
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Curry leaves-10
Green chilli-1-2 small
Fenugreek seeds (mentulu)-1/2 tsp
Hing (Inguva podi)-2-3 pinches
Coriander powder-1 tsp
oil-2 tbsp


Wash and slice radish finely and boil in water for 10 minutes in medium flame or until turns soft.Wash and soak dal for 15 minutes and pressure cook for 10 minutes in high flame by adding little bit of turmeric and 1 tsp oil.

 Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds when they splutter and red chilli, cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chilli, fenu greek seeds,onion pieces and saute it.

Add radish pieces cook this for 2-3 minutes, add tomatoes,turmeric powder and mix well.after 2 minutes,add 1/8 cup of water.

Then add toor dal (pressure cooked),coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder,tamarind juice,hing,coconut milk (I skipped) put the lid on and let it cook for 10 minutes.  

once it comes to boil chopped coriander cook for 5 minutes then switch off the flame.Serve this with rice.
