Perugu/Yogurt/Curd Is my favorite food which I love to eat any time..Wondering??? But It`s true.. I am heart dying fan to home made fresh thick yogurt and mom  prefers to make at home always instead of buying it out side..Once upon a time,I used to eat rice only with curd and Amma`s mango pickle.Even still remember the days when I avoided lunhc or dinner because of absence of curd at home..Amma also always says it and often asks in phone whether good quality yogurt is available or not,here in my place..
if you make curd at home with pure buffalo milk(without adding water) you know about the malai layer which forms on top..Is n`t..In school days I used to eat that thick formed layer by separating from the yogurt and another side amma used to annoy like 'bad girl" Hehehehe!!! The taste of the malai layer is some thing delicious which I can`t explain,but after tasting definitely you`ll love it.. After coming to foz,very badly craved for good yogurt in the starting,but later started adjusting to the store bought bottle..:( Iam the person who never likes to add water in curd,but hubby adds water more than the curd...Still now he point outs this..;) So,intsead of having boring thin looking curd I used to make raitas every time with different vegetables...So,this is one of the curd which I made recently..I missed step wise pics some where,but sure will update it soon.



WHAT YOU NEED
Bottle Gourd-grated – 1 cup (peel skin first)
Fresh Coconut powder– 2 tbsp (optional)
Curd – 2 cups
Green Chilies – 3-4 Or to taste
Ginger – 1/2"Piece or ginger garlic paste-1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves – Few (I skipped)
Salt -To Taste
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp

Oil-1 tbsp
Bengal Gram – 2 tsps
Black Gram/Urad dal – 2 tsps
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Asafoetida/hing – A Pinch
dry red chili-5 (if you don`t use green chili)





HOW TO COOK

1) Add in 1/2 cup of water if you like and beat curd well.Take a small size of bottle gourd and peel it , grate it finely.add this to curd along with salt and coconut powder..

2) put a small pan or tadka pan on the stove add oil,throw in  urad dal, musterd seeds,ginger or GGP, curry leaves,cumin,hing,red chili and saute for few seconds.Throw this in curd mixture and mix gently. Serve with rice and also tastes good with rotis.
