Khichdi is a very popular dish across Pakistan and North India. This dish is widely prepared in many Indian states like GujaratBengal,BiharJharkhandUttar PradeshOdisha, and Maharashtra. Vegetables such as carrot,cauliflowerpotato, and green peas are commonly added in the kichidi.
There are so many varieties in making kichidi and this Khechidi is very popular in Odisha.Few more varieties of khechidi in Odisha like adahengu khechidi (ginger-asafoetida khichdi), moong dal khichdi, etc. Adahengu khechidi is a popular dish in the Jagannath Temple as well. In this Paiba kichidi the difference is using chana dal..It is very easy recipe to cook and perfect for lunch..Try it next time and serve with a side of kadhi and  papadum.

WHAT YOU NEED


Ingredients

rice- 1 cup
chana dal -3/4 cup
potato-1 small
onion-1 small
tomato-1 small
green chilli-3-4
cabbage chopped-1 cup
frozen green peas-1/2 cup
carrot-1
ginger garlic paste/GGP-2 tea spoons
turmeric powder-1/2 tea spoon
mint leaves + coriander leaves -few
salt-to taste
oil-2 tbsps + ghee- 1 table spoon
black pepper powder-1 tsp
red chili powder-1 tea spoon (optional)

TO TEMPER/Tadka

green cardamom-2
cloves-3
cinnamon- 1"inch stick
cumin seeds -1 tea spoon
dry red chili-2
cashew nuts chopped -6


HOW TO COOK


Wash rice well and keep aside..chop all veggies and set aside....soak dal for 15 minutes..

Heat oil in pressure cooker or any thick bottomed vessel add the ingredients which mentioned in the temper list..just saute those for half minute.....

add in all chopped veggies one by one and fry well...add salt.... Add in  ginger garlic paste and mix well..cook this for 5 minutes.......

add in soaked dal+rice and again mix once....add in enough water and let it boil. While boiling add in freshly ground black pepper powder and cook this till rice done........

serve hot with and raita.......without any side dish also it tastes good.....
