Masoordal Khichdi is an hyderabadi famous khichdi which is available in restaurants. The culinary traditions of the Nizams (kings) of Hyderabad are popular with many and till this day every foodie who visits Hyderabad yearns for a proper full-fledged Hyderabadi breakfast.
This is a healthy and comfort food. Khichdi is basically prepared with rice and lentils. So, in this masoor dal is the main thing which differentiate with other khichidi recipes.Generally khichidi is folded with lots of vegetables but in this we don`t add any veggies. The another most important step in khichidi recipe is seasoning. Prepare Tadka with ghee which makes khichdi rich in taste. Usually khichdi is served with yogurt, pickle and papdam,so go with the recipe and serve according to your choice. Katta is the innovative dish which is a pair with this meals.

PREPARATION TIME- 25 MINUTES

COOKING TIME- 20 MINUTES



WHAT YOU NEED


rice- 1 cup

masoor dal/Red dal/ Red lentils -3/4 cup

onion-1 small

green chilli-3-4

ginger garlic paste/GGP-2 tea spoons

turmeric powder-1/2 tea spoon

mint leaves + coriander leaves -few

salt-to taste

oil-2 tbsps + ghee- 1 table spoon

TO TEMPER/Tadka

green cardamom-2

cloves-3

cinnamon- 1"inch stick
cumin seeds -1 tea spoon
dry red chili-2
cashew nuts chopped -6
bay leaf-1



HOW TO COOK


Wash rice well and keep aside....soak dal for 15 minutes..

Heat oil in pressure cooker or any thick bottomed vessel add 

the ingredients which mentioned in the temper list..just 

saute those for half minute.....

add in all chopped onions,green chili,GGP,turmeric powder 

and fry well...add salt. Cook this for 2 minutes in low flame...

add in soaked dal+rice and again mix once....add salt as per 

your taste and enough water and let it boil and cook this till 

rice done........

serve hot with some curry and raita.......without any side dish 

also it tastes good.....Basically KHATTA is the specific side 

dish for this kichidi..I will post that recipe next time..
