Rasam is a comfort soup which is a traditional south Indian soup which can be had with rice or as is.. This is a must in any South Indian meal. Any South Indian meal is definitely incomplete without this sweet and sour spicy rasam.

WHAT YOU NEED

1.Tomatoes-3 big
2.onion-1 small
3.Coriander leaves-few
4.tamarind rasam-1/4 cup
5.Turmeric powder-1/2 tea spoon
6. Oil-2 table spoons
7.Garlic slices-3
8.Cumin seeds-1 tea spoon
9.Coriander seeds-1 tea spoon
10.Pepper corns-1 tea spoon
11.Red chili-1
12.Ginger pieces-1 table spoon 
13.Sugar/1/2 tea spoon
14.Salt to taste
For Tadka
mustard seeds-1 tea spoon
cumin seeds-1/2 tea spoon
curry leaves-few
green chillies-4-5
hing/asafoetida-1/4 tea spoon



HOW TO COOK
1.Take a pan,heat for a minute.. add cumin seeds,pepper corns,coriander seeds and fry for a minute.Then grind into fine powder..
2.Take a vessel,add chopped tomatoes,add water as required for soup consistency and bring it to boil for 15 minutes so that tomatoes get mashed well.let it cool,and squeeze out the rasam.
3. Take a pan,turn on heat.Add oil,add mustard seeds,green chillies,ginger, garlic,turmeric  powder,red chillies,curry leaves,chopped onions and cook for a minute..
4.Add squeezed rasam,tamarind juice with a strainer and add salt,sugar,bring it to boil.Then add ground masala powder,coriander leaves and after a minute turn off gas.Serve hot with rice.
