Minapappu vada or garelu or medu vada is a traditional South Indian breakfast which can be served with chutneys or as a snack also serves it some times...After Idli and dosa this vada is the third popular breakfast in many of the south indian homes.This Medu vada is a urad dal based fried snack where we soak urad dal over night, ground together with some spices to taste, and deep fries until golden brown.Usually It is served with coconut or peanut chutney. This vada is alos very popular during festival times like sankkranthi,dasara or deepavali.Try this Vada for your breakfast or give alike to snack to kids.

PREPARATION TIME- over night for dal soaking + 20 MINUTES
COOKING TIME- 30 MINUTES
WHAT YOU NEED
200 grams/1 cup-minapappu/ urad dal
1/4 cup finely chopped Coriander leaves
1 tea spoon - cumin seeds
2-3 pinches - Hing
For deep fry- oil
1 small onion
1 tea spoon pepper powder( for taste)
HOW TO COOK
Wash and soak Urad dal for 6 hour or overnight.Blend it into a coarse paste.
Take a deep bottomed vessel or kadai, add oil to it let it heat.Mean while other side,take a bowl add blended urad dal,add finely chopped onion,cumin seeds,coarse pepper powder, finely chopped coriander leaves,hing,salt as per taste mix all these ingredients well.
take lemon size batter make it into round shape with whole in the middle deep fry in the oil it turns to golden colour,while frying keep the flame in medium and fry in both sides carefully to cook inside the batter of vada.Fry 4-5 vadas in every batch and once when they are done take vadas on kitchen paper towel whcih absorbs the excess of oil.Serve hot with coconut chutney or peanut chutney..I served with mango pickle along with idly.
