Oats are light in calories yet rich in  fibre which is perfect for health specially for those who prefers to weight loss. using oats can make various dishes like upma,pongal,laddu and mnay more.Coming to this recipe,it`s a simple upma with colourful veggies like carrots and peas, which add to the flavour and visual appeal of the dish. Take care to roast the oats well, to remove the raw aroma and also ensure that the final texture of the upma is nice and not gooey. The Oats Upma is quite filling, and ideal for Breakfast as it will easily keep you satiated till lunch time. Being fibre-rich, this upma can also be had by diabetics any time.

WHAT YOU NEED
oil-2 table spoons
chana dal-1/2 tea spoon
cumin seeds-1/2 tea spoon
mustard seeds-1/2 tea spoon
curry leaves-few
finely chopped onion-1 medium size
ginger garlic paste-1/2  tea spoon
cashew nuts -5
chopped carrot-1
potato-1 small
green peas-1/3 cup
 salt-to taste
turmeric powder-1/2 tea spoon
red chili powder-1 tea spoon
oatmeal-1 cup
HOW TO COOK
Heat a non stick pan or kadai with oil.Throw in chana dal,cumin seeds,mustard seeds,curry leaves.Saute for few seconds,add finely chopped onions,ginger garlic paste,cashew nuts and saute for a minute in medium flame. Add in finely chopped carrot,potato,green peas,mix well.Add salt,turmeric powder,red chili powder,stir every thing.Add water and let it boil.When the starts boiling keep the flame in low and add oatmeal,Mix gently,cook in low flame with lid for 5 minutes or until water evaporates.Serve hot with curd..
