Telangana Style Masala Pappu | Onion Masala Dal Recipe | Dal Recipes For Rice

Onion masala dal is a simple dish which is popular from Telanagana region..It`s easy to make yet tastes delicious because of the seasoning/ tadka that is used with this dal. It is also spicy and served in dhabas mostly.It is a healthy and spicy which goes excellent with hot steaming white rice or chapathis.

onion is the main ingredient in this dal and tomatoes also an optional..Some people avoids tomatoes it is a choice., try this Masala Dal next time and have with hot rice and rotis.
WHAT YOU NEED
Onions-1 big size
Tomato Ripen-1
Oil 2 table spoons
Salt-to taste
Ginger garlic paste -1 tea spoon
Chilly powder -1  tea spoon
Coriander powder 1  tea spoon
Turmeric powder-1/2  tea spoon
Mustard seeds - tea spoon
Cumin seeds- tea spoon
Dry Red chilly 2 n
Curry leaves -few 
Ridge gourd 100 g
Tamarind juice ¼ cup
Toor daal(Lentil) - ½ cup
HOW TO COOK
Wash and soak dal for 20 minutes.Heat a pressure cooker add dal and 1-1/2 cups of water,pressure cook for 3 whistles..Heat oil in a non stick pan add mustard seeds when mustard seeds splutter add cumin seeds, red chilli, curry leaves, sauté it and add onions, little bit salt, sauté it and add ginger garlic paste. Then add finely chopped tomato, turmeric powder, chilly powder, mix this and add pressure cooked dal. stir gently put the lid on and let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes in a slow flame..Then add  coriander powder,salt to taste and mix well.Add some coriander leaves if you have and turn off.Serve this hot with rice.
