Bottle-gourd is one of the popular vegetables which south Indians use to make various dishes.  Bottle gourd is called as Lauki in Hindi and in Telugu, we call it as anapakaya or sorakaya. There are few dishes which are quite famous in our Telugu states like bottle gourd curry with milk, with chana dal, pachadi, Pappu and also this Pulusu.
Pulusu is nothing but tamarind stew which may take 10-15  minutes of time to cook. This pulusu tastes good when it served hot with steamed white rice along with potato stir fry. Bottle-gourd also helps to weight loss so try different dishes to enjoy at the same time can burn the extra calories too.

WHAT YOU NEED
Tamarind pulp-lemon size
Rice flour-1 tablespoon
Oil-2 tablespoons
Mustard seeds-1 teaspoon
Cumin seeds-1 teaspoon
Curry leaves-few
Red Chilli-2
Garlic Cloves-5 pods
Asafoetida-1/2 teaspoon
Green chilli-6-8
Bottle gourd-1/2 size
Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
Red chilli powder-1/2 teaspoon
Jaggery piece - a small piece 

HOW TO COOK
Soak lemon size tamarind pulp in 1 cup water for 10-15 minutes then squeeze the juice and keep aside. 
In a small bowl, take rice flour, add water and mix well without any lumps.
Heat a non-stick pan add oil. When the oil is hot, keep the flame at low, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chilli, chopped garlic cloves and saute for half a minute.
Then add chopped asafoetida, green chilli, chopped bottle gourd pieces, salt and mix well. 
Cover with a lid and cook for 3-5 minutes in low flame until bottle gourd pieces turn soft. 
Then add tamarind water, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and stir gently. After 5 minutes add rice flour mixture, stir well.
Add jaggery piece and cilantro leaves and mix well. Turn off and serve hot with white rice along with veg fry.
