Chana masala or chole masala is one of the popular vegetable dish in Indian cuisine where the main ingredient is chickpeas.But with chana can cook so many variety of gravies which are the perfect side dishes for rotis any time..I have tried few different gravies soon going to share all.
Coming to this Chana Masala it is kerala popular which is folded with black chick peas.It is a coconut masala based korma with spice powders..Grinding tomatoes along with coconut is the best part to get a good gravy consistency.If you do chapathi regularly like me,then definitely you may need different side dishes every time..Try this version chana masala if you like chick peas often like me and serve hot with roti/paratha.

Black Chick peas/Chana-2 cups
oil-2 table spoons
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Curry leaves-few
Onion-1 big
Ginger garlic paste/GGP-1 tea spoon
Tomato-2 medium size
Coconut pieces-1/2 cup
Red chili powder-2 tea spoons
Salt-to taste
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Coriander powder-1 tsp
Cumin powders-1 tsp
Garam masala-1 tsp
Wash and soak chick peas over night,next day morning pressure cook chana for 3-4 whistles in medium flame for 15 minutes.In low a pan,fry coconut pieces,take into mixy jar,add chopped tomato pieces,using water grind into fine paste.
Heat a non stick pan with oil,throw cumin seeds,mustard seeds,curry leaves,finely chopped onions.ginger garlic paste,cook for a minute until onions turns brown.Add in ground coconut masala mix and cook for 2 minutes.. Now add red chili powder,salt,turmeric powder,coriander,cumin powders,garam masala and saute every thing. Add pressure cooked chana and 2 cups of water for gravy consistency..Cook this for 10 minutes in low flame and turn off.Serve hot with chapathi/pulka/roti.
