Banjara Mutton Curry | Lambadi Style Mutton Masala | Patel Style Mutton Gravy | Banjara Cuisine | Mutton Recipes

Mutton Curry is a wonderful meat curry with so many variations and each one have a unique style of cooking. Even the taste also will be different in each recipe.I have seen Banjara people in my childhood when we stayed along with my grandparents at my native place.
Their way of dressing is unique, they used to sell Guavas, custard apples and Indian jujube fruits mostly. When I found this recipe on youtube, remembered all those memories which motivated me to share here.💙

 Coming to this curry, it has a superb blend of whole spices along with hot green chilli and onion. I have used tomatoes in the recipe but later I thought can avoid it actually because without tomatoes also it tastes good. Depending on chillies curry taste may vary so adjust the spices as per your taste. Overall, this is one of the simple Mutton gravy which goes well with rice or Indian flat bread like roti, naan, paratha or chapati.

Mutton with bones-250 grams
Coriander leaves - 4-5 sprigs
Oil- 7 tablespoon
Tomatoes- 2 medium size
Turmeric powder-1 teaspoon
Red chilly powder- 2 teaspoon

Garam masala-1 teaspoon
Yogurt-2 tablespoons+1/2 cup
Lemon juice-2 tablespoons
To grind
Onion- 2 medium size
Ginger -few small pieces
Green chili-5-6
Roasted coconut powder or pieces-2-3 tablespoons (optional)
Garlic- 10 cloves
Cinnamon- 2"-inch piece
Bay leaf-1 small
Cardamom pods-2
Black peppercorns-1 teaspoon
 1.In a mixing bowl, take red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder, 2 tablespoons yoghurt, lemon juice and mix well.
2.Add cleaned mutton and mix everything, rest it for 1-hour minimum or overnight if possible.
3.Now heat a pressure cooker, add 2 tablespoons oil, add chopped onions, ginger pieces, garlic cloves, green chillies, bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, black peppercorns and saute for 2-3 minutes in the medium flame heat.
4.Then take it into a mixy jar and rest for sometime.then grind into a fine mixture.
5.Now pour 5 tablespoons oil in the same pressure cooker, when it is hot, add mutton, finely chopped tomatoes and stir gently. Add 2 cups of water, cover with a lid and cook for 20 minutes in medium heat(around 4-5whistles).
6. When the pressure is released, add yoghurt, ground onion mixture, garam masala, coriander powder, cumin powder and mix well. Add a cup of water, pressure cook for 10-15 more minutes and turn off.
7.Rest it for some time, then add coriander leaves and stir gently. Serve hot with rice/ roti.
