palakura pappu recipe | spinach dal | palak dal | south indian style palakoora pappu

The recipe called Dal doesn`t need any introduction which is quite famous for us. This is one of my mother recipe which she cooks often. On Mondays, I usually cook a complete vegetarian lunch and dal stands in the menu definitely. Though I cook this often couldn`t take pictures every time, so finally, last week without forgetting took stepwise pictures and sharing here in the blog.
Spinach dal is my favourite, in fact, loves mom`s version lot and tried to cook in her style and the dal came out so good. Dal is protein packed and healthy too. There are many versions in cooking spinach dal but next time try this and share your comments.

toor dal --1/2 cup
chopped onion-1 small 
spinach  leaves-1 bunch
ginger garlic paste-1 teaspoon
salt to taste
turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
red chilli powder--1-2 teaspoon
tamarind-goose berry size
oil-2 tablespoons
cumin seeds-1 teaspoon
mustard seeds-1 teaspoon
dry red chilli-2
urad dal--1 teaspoon
chana dal--1 teaspoon
chopped garlic cloves-5
asafoetida-1/2 teaspoon
coriander powder-1/2 teaspoon
garam masala-1/2 teaspoon
Wash spinach leaves, chop finely and keep them in a colander. Wash dal once and soak in 1 cup of water for 20 minutes. chop the onion finely.
Now in a pressure cooker, take soaked dal with water, chopped onion, spinach, ginger garlic paste, little bit salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, tamarind, 1 cup of water and close with a lid. 
On a medium flame cook, this dal for 15 minutes or for 3-4 whistles then turn off and let it rest for sometime.
Now heat a non-stick pan, add oil. When the oil is hot, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, red chilli, urad dal, chana dal, chopped garlic cloves, asafoetida one by one and saute in low flame.
pour in dal immediately and add coriander powder, garam masala, stir well and cook for 5 minutes then turn off the gas. Serve hot with rice or roti.
