Palak with chana dal is one of our south Indian famous dishes which we cook at home. Even my mom cooks this curry often so when I found spinach bunches tried this curry immediately. There were few different methods to cook this subji will share another version next time.
Spinach is a very good source of dietary fibre, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc, protein and choline. Spinach also contains several other vitamins and minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, and vitamins B6, B9 and E. Even chana dal is good in protein so this kind of taking spinach in this kind of curries is really good for health.

spinach-1 big size bunch
chana dal-1 cup
oil-2 tablespoons
mustard seeds- 1 teaspoon
cumin seeds-1 teaspoon
red chilli-1
curry leaves-few
Hing-1/4 teaspoon
onions-1 medium size
ginger garlic paste-1 teaspoon
tomatoes-2 small size
red chilli powder-2 teaspoon
salt to taste
turmeric powder-1 teaspoon
coriander powder-1 teaspoon
garam masala-1 teaspoon
Wash spinach, chop finely and keep aside. Boil for 10 minutes and drain in a colander.
Wash chana dal, soak for 20 minutes and pressure cook with 1 cup of water for 10 minutes in medium flame.
Now heat a nonstick pan with oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli, curry leaves, Hing and saute for few seconds.
Then add finely chopped onions, ginger garlic paste, stir and cook for 2 minutes in low heat.
now add finely chopped tomatoes, mix well. Add red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder, mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
Then add boiled spinach, cooked dal with water and stir gently. cover with a lid and cook for 10 minutes in low heat. Finally add coriander powder, garam masala mix gently and turn off. Serve hot with chapati or rice.
