traditional indian spice box | masala dabba | kitchen basics kitchen tips | indian spice box

Today I`m not sharing a recipe but a useful post which is kitchen friendly. Masala Dabba is the major item which is quite easily visible in every Indian kitchen.
I brought this stainless steel box in my last India trip. Gathering all the spices in one box is easy to handle and saves the time too.
I  suggest keeping 2-3 boxes instead of many which may save the place too. If you like can use one box for spice powders and one more for whole spices. I have already shared a post regarding the whole spices box.
Depending on their choice each one may arrange the masala Dabba but the most important ingredients which people prefer are chana dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chilli, turmeric powder and fenugreek seeds. Except turmeric powder even I prefer those all ingredients to save in the box.

Sometimes I change the spices like, In this (pictures) Masala Dabba, I kept coriander seeds and sesame seeds which we use regularly in cooking so as per your choice you can arrange the box. Here is the basic yet useful Information about the spices.
Mustard seeds: Helps to cure asthma, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.
Cumin seeds: Helps in digestion, reducing gas and lowers the blood sugar levels.
Chana dal: good for diabetic patients, helps in losing weight
Urad dal: improves digestion and boosts heart health
Dry red Chilli: burns calories, relieves from congestion
Sesame seeds: boosts oral health, strengthen muscle tissues, skin and hair.
Coriander seeds: controls the blood sugar and cholesterol.
Fenugreek seeds: good for skin infections, helps to control diabetes
Turmeric powder: prevents breast cancer, lowers cholesterol
