No matter how many years you cross,mom`s foods always best and stands in first place for everyne. Isn`t it??!!sengihnampakgigi Even I love my mom`s recipes though I didn`t trained any thing before.menari I started my cooking after getting married and created my very own style.That`s why may be I don`t get that exact mom style results or tastecelebrate 
Usually I cook dal on Mondays that too I prefer spinach dal most of the times.But this time thought to cook tomato dal that too in mom`s style.So,almost in her style I tried this and surprisingly it tasted same like mom`s version.I have used green chillies for spice but can replace it with red chili powder even..It tastes good with hot white rice along with some veg fry and curd..senyumtepuktangan

PREPARATION TIME- 30 MINUTES
COOKING TIME-20-30 MINUTES
WHAT YOU NEED
Onions (finely chopped) -1 medium size Toor daal/Tuvar dal/Kandi pappu- 1 Cup
Tomatoes (chopped) - 5 medium size
ginger garlic paste-1 teaspoon
Green chillies-5-6
Coriander powder -1 tea spoon
For Tadka/ Tempering/Popu Clarified Butter/ghee or oil- 2 +1 tablespoons
Mustard seeds -1 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves -few Cumin seeds - 1 Teaspoon Garlic (crushed)flakes -3- 4 no Salt To Taste whole Red Chillies -2 no Turmeric powder -1 Teaspoon
Hing/Asafoetida-1/4 teaspoon

 HOW TO COOK
Wash dal twice and soak in 2 cups of water for 20 minutes. Chop onion,tomatoes,green chilies.Now Put daal in a pressure cooker and add oil add onion, tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder,little bit salt, 1 tablespoon oil and green chillies. Cover with lid and cook for 15 minutes,in medium flame and turn off. Wait until air releases. To prepare the tempering, heat ghee or oil in frying pan, add mustard and cumin seeds,curryleaves, fenugreek seeds stir on medium heat until they begin to pop, add garlic and stir -fry until golden brown. Then add red chillies and curry leaves, stir until the chillies becomes bright red, and pour the cooked dal in this.Add coriander powder and salt to taste then turn off.
